Whale Star: The Gyeongseong Mermaid

Set in 1926 during Japanese colonial rule, this Korean period romance follows Heo Su A, a 17-year-old maid sold into servitude by her impoverished family. After dreaming of a wounded whale, she discovers Kang Ui Hyeon, a severely injured independence activist, washed ashore and secretly nurses him back to health-risking her life in the process. However, a failed assassination attempt by his comrade leaves Su A mute. Determined to seek revenge, Su A travels to Gyeongseong, where she becomes entangled in the dangerous world of resistance fighters. Meanwhile, Ui Hyeon-an educated elite and covert operative skilled in espionage and codebreaking-struggles with his identity as the son of a pro-Japanese judge while dedicating himself to the independence movement. As their paths intertwine, both are drawn deeper into a fight that tests their loyalties, pasts, and hearts.
