Papers. (1991) is a Japanese experimental short film directed by Yoshinao Satoh. Using thousands of newspaper clippings, Satoh creates a hypnotic collage of rotating portraits, fragmented wording, and shifting text that dance to the minimalist rhythms of composer Steve Reich. In just three minutes, the film transforms everyday printed material into a kinetic meditation on language, perception, and media. Without dialogue, it immerses the viewer in a mesmerizing visual poem where words and images blur into pure movement.
